Sports platform: 13 apps, one PWA
Consolidated 13 separate applications into one installable PWA with a single AWS Cognito sign-in and role-based onboarding.
- Role
- Associate Software Development Engineer
- When
- 2022 — 2024
- Links
- Confidential client work
- 13 apps
- Cognito SSO
- RBAC onboarding
- One PWA
The problem
Users of the platform moved between 13 separate applications, each its own entry point with its own sign-in. Every additional app was another login and another place to get lost.
What I did
- Built the consolidated React PWA that replaced the separate applications
- Integrated AWS Cognito for unified single sign-on
- Implemented role-based (RBAC) onboarding flows
- Moved the build to Vite + SWC and added offline support with the Vite PWA plugin
Architecture
- One React application shell hosts what used to be 13 entry points
- AWS Cognito is the single identity provider; roles drive what each user is onboarded into
- Service worker via the Vite PWA plugin provides installability and offline support
Key decisions
Identity first, then consolidation
Merging apps without merging identity only moves the problem. A single Cognito user pool and role model is what makes "one app" real for users.
PWA rather than native wrappers
An installable, offline-capable web app reaches every device from one codebase — the right trade for a consolidation project.
Outcome
- One sign-in instead of thirteen
- Installable, offline-capable application
- Build and runtime performance improved after moving to Vite + SWC
